I am just drawn to new things and taking in each experience as they come. In the year 1992, we had quite a different start the new year. My late son Michael suddenly departed from this earth at 9 a.m. that new year’s morning due to a freak accident. After the burial, I often thought of what we spoke about the day before he passed. On the 23rd of March, I started my journey of grace and had since encountered God never like before in so many different ways from experiencing the waves of His Glory as it followed me and a month later our little Louise graced us with her birth on the 22nd of April.
That was a whole lot of “NEW” for me to embrace. I relocated from Cape Town to Johannesburg in October this same year, and that’s where the connection happened. A friend invited me to their church service on Sunday and asked whether I was ready to experience something “NEW” that’s what he said. I was eager and ready for change; welcome to Pentecostal-Charismatic; New Testaments Acts Church! WoW! Evidence that Jesus is alive. Well, that was my first impression when I walked into the church building in Edenvale. To crown it all the Senior Pastor Theo Wolmarans, a man I never saw before or even heard of, said something about a woman who described me to the T! (laugh), that’s the first letter of my name too! When he said “she is here today” I froze in my seat. I did not understand what the ‘word of knowledge’ or ‘prophesy’ was at that time nor anything remotely Christianese as I came from a religious, traditional church background. The rest is history!
In Luke 5:36-38, Jesus teaches a great truth about newness.
Before Jesus Christ became the centre of my life, I allowed life’s situations to determine my moods and reactions. Being swayed by my emotions led me to make the wrong decisions.
I gathered that my hope and restoration are found only in Jesus Christ, and I surrendered my life and all perspectives to Him. My ‘NEW LIFE” journey made the challenges of this life to no longer dictate my emotions or behaviours. I discovered that joy and strength come from the Lord when I put my trust in Him. He became my rock and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.
My prayer is that I will maintain my eternal perspective in all that I do and say until it is the time!
When we allow ourselves to embrace newness in life, God gives us a NEW viewpoint on everything. Philippians 4:8 helps us to be mindful of that: “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
What a pleasure to witness the transformation from brokenness to wholeness! From a spiritual death to total restoration and newness of life. What a joy it is to observe the restoration of a NEW believer at the altar of repentance! This ‘NEW’ beginning, may God grant that we all continue to reflect this the joy and peace in our daily lives.
Proverbs 17:22 teaches us that, “A cheerful heart is an as good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.”
Only when you are willing to allow God to use your life to share His love with those who desperately need His perspective. Telling others about who God is, and all He has done will fill your hearts with unspeakable joy, by doing this it will lift your spirits, and introduce others to the Savior who brings ‘NEWNESS’ to every heart He rescues.
Father, I praise You for the marvellous work You do through Your children, and I will worship You all of my days as You give me the wisdom, knowledge, and courage to share Your love with those who do not know you. Thank you for forgiving my sins through your precious Son, Jesus. Please help me keep an eternal perspective as I fix my eyes on the those who need you. Here I am, use my life as a vessel to bring restoration and newness of life to someone suffering from the pain of this world. Amen.
